Very true, Mr Shakespeare. However, I do think there is a lot to be said for a person’s name.
It’s lovingly chosen by a person’s parental figures, it follows you throughout life and a lot of the time is tied to our sense of family and community, and it is precious in its own unique way.
It connects us to our own sense of identity and to a wider sense of belonging.
It holds some of our precious essence.
So if you are welcoming in a new member of the family, whether that be a biological or adopted child, in both cases it is definitely cause for celebration!
A new person has entered your hearts, your household, and it’s about time that they were introduced to their community too.
And what better way than by gathering your loved ones for a bespoke and personalised naming ceremony?
It can take whatever shape you like, it’s really up to you!
I will take your lead on what you would like to include, and if you’d like a few suggestions I can help too.
For example, some people like to include details about their fertility journey, anecdotes and stories about the pregnancy, or what first inspired you to want to adopt your loved one, perhaps giving details about when you first met. We can also talk about your selection of their name, what it means, and more broadly what it means to you to have them as such a key member of your family.
These are only a few ideas, and we can discuss more together. We can include rituals that can include the attendees of the ceremony or certain key friends and family members. The creative process is entirely in our hands and we can shape the ceremony in a way that best reflects you, your family and your own wants and wishes.

- An initial meeting with me to discuss your special day
- A questionnaire so you can fill me in on any extra details of adventures, stories and ceremony ideas
- Help and advice when any choosing readings, songs and rituals
- A completely bespoke naming ceremony script that is entirely personalised to you and the story of your new addition to the family
- Special access to my Recommended Vendors list, a resource with details for photographers, florists, balloon artists/decorators, children’s entertainers, hairdressers and more, to help you if you need any suggestions for your special day. (I know these people are fantastic!)
- Unlimited and ongoing contact with me throughout the process, and as many drafts of your ceremony script as you like until it’s absolutely perfect
- I will make contact with any chosen suppliers and make sure we are all aligned for a smooth ceremony
- One final meeting to go through any last minute adjustments before the big day
- A rehearsal of your ceremony (additional charges apply)
- Any symbolic rituals of your choice (additional charges may apply)
- I will lead the ceremony on the special day itself, acting as a master of ceremonies and making sure it is seamless and flows exactly how you would like
- I will provide a presentation copy of your ceremony script as a memento of your special day, that you can keep forever
